Formulas Used in the Height Calculator
The calculator uses two widely recognized methods for predicting adult height:
Method 1: Mid-Parental Height Formula
This method calculates the average of the parents' heights, adjusted for the child's gender.
Formula:
For males:
Predicted Height = (Father's Height + Mother's Height) / 2 + 6.5
For females:
Predicted Height = (Father's Height + Mother's Height) / 2 - 6.5
Example:
A male child with a father’s height of 178 cm and mother’s height of 164 cm:
Predicted Height = (178 + 164) / 2 + 6.5 = 181 cm
Method 2: Khamis-Roche Method
This method uses the child's current height, weight, and age, along with the parents' heights, to estimate adult height.
Formula:
Predicted Height = Mid-Parent Height + Gender Adjustment + Growth Contribution - Age Adjustment
Example:
A male child aged 5.2 years, height 112 cm, weight 18 kg, with father’s height 178 cm and mother’s height 164 cm:
Predicted Height = 171 + 6.5 - 23.6 + 6.4 + 1.8 = 181 cm
Key Considerations
Predicted height estimates are based on averages and may vary depending on factors like nutrition, environment, and overall health. Use these predictions as a guideline and consult a healthcare provider for personalized advice on growth and development.
